the museum and park sought to revitalize the local economy through art and culture by repurposing the site of a disused coal pit and railway network. The local landscape is dominated by its pyramid-shaped slag heaps, which were recognized for their historic value, and these lingering memories of the areas industrial past were incorporated into the landscape design.
